A gas meter pump is an important piece of equipment that measures your home or commercial establishment’s gas consumption. These devices are useful in billing purposes and detecting unusual usage or possible tampering. There are several different types of gas meters, but diaphragm, rotary, and turbine meters are most commonly installed. These meters measure the volume of natural gas consumed by measuring the linear displacement of a piston within the meter’s chambers. Many people believe that a gas detector without a pump is less accurate, slower to respond or simply doesn’t detect as much gas. However, this is false. The pump draws a sample of gas into the monitor, which helps to make it more responsive, but the sensors still only detect the gases that they come in contact with.
